Peter Simon Mühlhäußer was born in Göppingen Germany in 1982. He lives and works in southern Germany.
Mühlhäußer’s formal art training began in 2004 when he studied as a stonemason at the Johannes Steinhäuser School in Lasa Italy until 2007. In 2009 he earned his Masters of Fine Art from the New York Academy of Art graduating cum laude. While at the Academy he received an honorary fellowship for one year of continuing education.
The figurative sculptures of Mühlhäußer tell stories. He works in a series of sculptures where the individual series has a theme. Some early series, for example, looked at the pressures on young people and the difficulties some of them face in the modern world. Another series took a more light-hearted look at figures in poses inspired by animals. His most recent series focuses on the aesthetic harmony of organic and non-organic shapes.
Other consistent elements in Mühlhäußer’s sculptures are his desire to experiment with materials and his dedication to rendering the human form. He has created sculptures in materials such as bronze and aluminum but also has in resin, synthetic foam, and quartzite crystal sand. He chooses a material to complement the sculpture’s composition, or the theme being portrayed. In all of the series, however, he sculpts the details of each figure and allows the material to enhance his work.
Mühlhäußer works are held in numerous collections worldwide and he has exhibited internationally including participating in the 55th Venice Biennale.
